Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Simple and Intentional Podcast. Today I want to talk about self-care and decluttering. This is a concept that I used to talk about a lot, and I haven't really talked about in a while, and I know it's come up in conversations on the podcast, but I really want to emphasize that decluttering is a form of self-care and one that we don't give enough attention to. You know, I think we've all sort of integrated the idea that self-care is more than bubble baths and doing a face mask or the occasional weekend away, although those can be pieces of self-care, but when we're looking at deep self-care that really teaches ourselves that we believe we're worthy, that we have self-worth, and that we think that we deserve to have regular care of ourselves through exercise and good food and good sleep and relationships and an environment that supports us, decluttering is a key piece of that. And it's a really practical form of self-care. But, you know, I have said this many, many times. Environment and relationships, I think, are the two things that have the biggest impact on our lives, how we feel on a regular basis. And so if you are walking into a home that is cluttered, that is overwhelming, that is dusty, that is dirty, that needs to be tidied up constantly, you are walking into a state of overwhelm that you can't escape. And you do not deserve that. So I want you to first think about um self-care as something more than just rest, relaxation, or treats. Those things matter, like I said, but real self-care is about reducing friction in our lives. It's about protecting your energy, it's about making your life easier, lightening your mental load, having a place that you can feel held in. And that is what decluttering can do. It takes away those obstacles that quietly drain you. They drain your time, they drain your energy, and they drain your cognitive um abilities because it's this constant decision making that we're trapped in with a mental load, and then you walk into a bunch of clutter, and that's asking more of you. And remember that clutter isn't just physical, that there is an invisible weight that comes along with clutter, mental, emotional, energetic. Every pile you're looking at is a reminder of something that you haven't done, that you need to do, and that sometimes we tell ourselves we're failing at. Those overstuffed draw overstuffed drawers are you know a decision that needs to be made. The countertop just adds noise. You go to make a sandwich and you have to move things out of the way. What if you moved through your space and there were no obstacles? What if you didn't have to squeeze down a hallway? What if you didn't have to move things around or step over something? What if your body could just move with ease? I want you to think about that and what that would feel like. And how many times do you think the words, I'm tired, I can't focus, I'm overwhelmed, come out of your mouth because of your environment. And it's not because you're doing anything wrong. I don't want this to feel like shame. It is not shame. I'm just trying to drive home the point that your environment matters and that you can do something about this. This is an empowering message because you can control this and you are likely caring way too much with your mental load. You have made way too many decisions today. So let's think about decluttering as future you care. I want you to think about it as a gift to yourself in the future. It's about who you're becoming, making the future easier. So every decision you make today is building towards an outcome where you are at peace, you are held by your environment. And what you're saying is that you are worthy of that outcome, that you are deserving of a space that supports you and that doesn't cause a lot of friction and overwhelm and obstacles. Because this is not about perfection, this is not about minimalism, this is not about having an Instagram worthy home or doing it all in one weekend. This is about gentleness. It's saying, what would it feel like to be lighter right now? What would help me breathe easier? What is one small thing I can release? And you know, we don't need to have perfect homes. But what you need is a home that's easy to tidy, that's easy to take care of. You need a home that isn't overwhelming you with the amount of things that are in it. You need a home that when you walk in, you don't feel like you have more to do. So I want you to figure out how you can consistently take action on your home so you can support yourself. And I'm gonna give you some examples, but I want you to figure out what works for you. So you can set a timer every day and declutter for 10 minutes. You can make decisions as you go. So if you encounter something that you know you don't want or is no longer useful, I mean, many things can often be garbage too. You know, worn clothing, that's not donatable. I want you to think about, you know, I know that people struggle with waste, but you know, if you're donating something, you're donating something that is like worthwhile to be used by others. And if it isn't, it's okay that it's garbage, it has lived its life. But have a bin or a bag or a box handy for dropping things that are donations into and just do it as you encounter them. I want you to start to think about getting in the habit of putting things away, not down. And if something takes a minute or less, doing it in the moment and not leaving it for later. And these habits are built over time, but it's okay if this week you start to think about it and you do it just a couple of times. But that is a couple more times than you did the week before. So you are building habits and you do that through repetition, and you're just gonna keep trying your best. And the more you do, every action is a step towards the thing that you want in the future, which is the environment that supports you. So think about the ways that you can do it consistently. Maybe you're the type of person that it works well to open a drawer and tackle a drawer at a time because that's a small contained space. Maybe it's helpful to do areas like the bathroom first because those things generally we don't have a lot of emotional attachment to because those are usually functional spaces. That and the kitchen. You know, think about the things that you can let go of and have a place for them to go and a plan that by the end of the week you're gonna make a trip. So take these small actions, focus on consistency over intensity, and know that every step you take is helping your home become a support to you and to hold you, restore you, and support you instead of exhausting you because you matter and you need that safe space. And decluttering is that self-care that you deserve. And every time you make a decision like that, you reinforce that self-worth for yourself. Okay. So thank you so much for listening. I hope this episode has been helpful. And if you are interested in more support, if you are interested in what it's like to work with me one-on-one, you can send me an email, you can send me a DM on Instagram, um, and I can share with you more details on what we can do together to help shift your home environment and get you into a place where you feel supported and held and you can start building that intentional life because you have the time, energy, and space to do it.
